Former French Army Chief Says Ukraine Cannot Achieve Military Victory

The former Chief of the Joint Staff of the French Army has stated that the ongoing war in Ukraine has no military solution and that Kyiv is incapable of overcoming Russia on the battlefield. According to him, the current situation necessitates that the involved parties move toward a just peace process.
Pierre de Villiers, in an interview with media outlets, emphasized that territorial disputes between Russia and Ukraine must be resolved through dialogue and political negotiations, not through the continuation of military conflicts that entail heavy human and security costs.
He also highlighted the necessity of providing sufficient security guarantees for Ukraine, warning that without such assurances, the risk of a renewed war will remain.
The former French military official expressed hope that peace negotiations would succeed, adding that past experiences have shown there is no sustainable military solution to this crisis.
Earlier, Russian President Vladimir Putin also stated that Moscow would adhere to any agreement to end the hostilities and considers providing security guarantees for both sides of the conflict a fundamental condition for achieving peace.
