German Interior Ministry Delegation Visits Kabul to Discuss Repatriation of Convicted Afghan Nationals

A delegation from the German Ministry of the Interior recently arrived in Kabul and met with several Taliban administration officials. The main purpose of this visit was to explore the conditions for the repatriation of Afghan nationals convicted in Germany back to Afghanistan.

German media have reported that the delegation met with Mohammad Nabi Omari, Deputy Minister of Interior under the Taliban administration, to discuss the process of returning Afghan migrants who have been convicted of crimes in Germany.

Although official German sources have declined to provide further details about the full content of the negotiations, analysts view this meeting as part of increasing efforts by European countries to repatriate migrants whose residency applications have been legally rejected.

The Taliban administration has yet to respond to the delegation’s visit or the topics discussed during the official meeting with its officials. The Taliban’s silence on an issue of such significance raises questions regarding the transparency of these talks and the attention to the rights of Afghan citizens.

Meanwhile, legal experts have warned that returning individuals to a country governed by a group lacking international legitimacy and perpetrating widespread human rights violations could pose serious risks to these individuals. The concrete steps taken by Western countries in this regard have also raised concerns among human rights organizations.
