Russia States Taliban Will Not Allow Any Foreign Military Bases in Afghanistan

Zamir Kabulov, Russia’s special envoy for Afghanistan, announced that the Taliban administration has no intention of permitting any foreign country to establish military bases on Afghan soil.
Kabulov made these remarks during the Moscow Format meeting, adding that this position was explicitly stated by Amir Khan Muttaqi, the acting Foreign Minister of the Taliban administration. According to him, Muttaqi emphasized that the deployment of foreign military facilities anywhere in Afghanistan, including Bagram Airfield, is unacceptable.
The Russian representative also clarified that Russia has no plans to establish a military base in Afghanistan.
This stance comes amid ongoing concerns about the presence of foreign military powers in Afghanistan, especially following sharp comments by Donald Trump about returning to Bagram. Nevertheless, the lack of an inclusive and legitimate government in Afghanistan has led the international community to view such claims by the Taliban administration with skepticism.
Furthermore, the Taliban administration has repeatedly demonstrated a lack of transparency and accountability in its strategic decisions and follows extralegal processes; a factor that casts doubt on the legitimacy of any of its security decisions.
