Senior ISIS-K Commander Killed in Mazar-i-Sharif

Pakistan’s 24NewsHD has reported that Mohammad Ehsani, also known by the alias “Anwar,” a senior figure in ISIS-Khorasan, was killed in an attack in Mazar-i-Sharif, Balkh province.

According to security sources cited in the report, Ehsani was of Tajik origin and one of the masterminds behind the 2022 suicide bombing in Peshawar’s Kocha Risaldar area, which killed 67 people and was one of ISIS’s deadliest attacks in Pakistan.

The sources added that beyond planning attacks, Ehsani also led the recruitment and training of Tajik suicide bombers for operations in Pakistan, making him a key operational figure within ISIS-K.

His death comes as the Taliban continue to claim they have suppressed ISIS activities in Afghanistan. However, the presence of such high-profile operatives in major cities like Mazar-i-Sharif highlights ongoing security vulnerabilities and the Taliban’s limited ability to contain the threat.
