Paris Protest Demands Justice for Afghan Journalists Seeking Humanitarian Visas

The Afghanistan Media Support Organization (AMSO) has announced a protest march set to take place in Paris on Thursday, December 17, in support of Afghan journalists who are currently awaiting humanitarian visas in Pakistan and Iran.

According to the organization, dozens of Afghan journalists fled the country following the Taliban’s takeover due to conditions of war, widespread censorship, security threats, and professional persecution. Now residing in neighboring countries, many face uncertain and precarious circumstances.

AMSO emphasized that delays or failures in issuing humanitarian visas have placed these journalists in dire humanitarian and professional conditions, casting serious doubt on their future. This situation, according to media advocacy groups, is a direct consequence of severe restrictions and pressure on freedom of expression under Taliban rule in Afghanistan.

The organization has called on journalists, media activists, and civil society groups based in Paris to join the protest and show solidarity with journalists at risk. The protest comes amid reports that some Afghan journalists have been deported from Pakistan and Iran back to Afghanistan—forced returns that have heightened concerns over their safety and fundamental rights.
