Kyrgyzstan Opens Trade House in Kabul to Boost Economic Ties

The Taliban-led Ministry of Industry and Commerce has announced the opening of the Kyrgyzstan Trade House in Kabul, attended by an official delegation from Kyrgyzstan. According to the ministry, the initiative aims to enhance economic relations and facilitate trade between business communities of the two countries.

In a statement released Wednesday, December 16, the ministry said the trade house was inaugurated in the presence of ministers of industry and commerce from both the Taliban administration and Kyrgyzstan. The Taliban administration described the move as an important step toward strengthening trade relations between Kabul and Bishkek.

As part of the visit, a bilateral meeting was held in Kabul between Nooruddin Azizi, the Taliban’s Minister of Industry and Commerce, and Beket Sydykov, Kyrgyzstan’s Minister of Economy and Commerce. During the talks, the two sides discussed increasing trade volume by leveraging existing capacities, identifying specific export items, developing transit cooperation, and the signing of transit agreements.

Discussions also covered attracting foreign and joint investment, organizing trade fairs and business forums, and establishing regular meetings of a joint working group. Both ministers emphasized the importance of implementing previously agreed-upon understandings, particularly the economic and trade cooperation roadmap signed earlier.

While the Taliban authorities promote expansion of trade ties with Central Asian countries, economic experts note that lack of transparency, banking restrictions, and ambiguous legal status for traders remain significant challenges to the implementation of such agreements.
