Qatar Pushes to Ease Tensions Between Taliban and Pakistan

Qatar’s Prime Minister and Foreign Minister, Mohammed bin Abdulrahman Al Thani, has announced that his country is engaged in diplomatic efforts to reduce rising tensions between the Taliban administration and Pakistan. He made the remarks during the 23rd edition of the Doha Forum, a summit focused on regional crises, including the situations in Afghanistan and Palestine.

Al Thani emphasized that major regional crises can only be resolved when key stakeholders are actively involved in the dialogue process. According to him, ignoring influential parties could lead to a deadlock in conflict resolution efforts.

Qatar is among the few countries that maintain formal relations with the Taliban administration and has played a mediating role in several political talks involving the group. However, persistent border and security disputes between the Taliban and Pakistan have raised concerns among regional nations. Analysts believe that without significant changes in the Taliban’s hardline policies toward its neighbors and the Afghan population, these mediation efforts are unlikely to succeed.
