Human Rights Watch Slams Trump’s Immigration Policies as Discriminatory and Punitive

Human Rights Watch has criticized the Trump administration’s latest immigration policies, describing them as discriminatory and punitive in nature, and a clear indication of racism.
In a newly released statement, the organization stressed that the broad suspension of asylum applications and immigration processes for nationals of 19 countries lacks any specific security basis and constitutes a clear violation of the United States’ obligations under international human rights law.
Tanya Greene, director of the U.S. Program at Human Rights Watch, stated that there is no meaningful common factor linking these 19 countries except for political labeling and individuals’ places of birth. She added that rather than enhancing security, these policies seek to target specific nationalities through the Trump administration’s discriminatory approach.
Criticism of Trump’s harsh stance on immigration and asylum continues to intensify, as these measures could directly impact the lives of thousands of Afghan migrants and asylum seekers in the United States. Many analysts express concern that such decisions could have far-reaching legal and humanitarian consequences.
