UN: Earthquake-Hit Families in Northern Afghanistan Still Without Shelter

The United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA) has reported that, a month after the earthquake in northern Afghanistan, affected families continue to suffer from a lack of adequate shelter and basic humanitarian assistance.
According to the report released on Thursday, December 3, regions already devastated by severe drought are now facing deeper challenges in rebuilding their lives.
OCHA has warned that with the onset of winter, the lack of essential resources for displaced families could lead to serious humanitarian consequences, particularly affecting children, the elderly, and women.
The international body emphasized the need for continued aid, stating that current support levels fall far short of meeting the actual needs of the earthquake survivors. OCHA has called on humanitarian agencies and the international community to urgently and significantly increase their assistance to these regions.
While northern areas of the country are mired in poverty and a worsening humanitarian crisis, the Taliban administration has so far failed to take effective steps to provide shelter or to coordinate with international organizations to address the dire situation of these families.
