Putin Travels to India for Talks with Modi on Defense and Geopolitics

Russian President Vladimir Putin is visiting India on Thursday for a two-day trip to meet with Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi. This marks Putin’s first visit to India in four years.

According to Reuters, the discussions between Putin and Modi will focus on regional geopolitical issues and defense cooperation. Agenda items include agreements on the purchase of fighter jets and missile defense systems.

Despite shifts in regional dynamics, Russia and India have maintained close ties in recent years. While New Delhi has expanded its relations with Western nations, military and security cooperation with Moscow has continued.

Although the Ukraine war and Russia’s growing alignment with China have influenced Moscow’s foreign policy, India has sought to strike a balance between engaging with Western powers and preserving its long-standing relationship with Russia.
