US Representative’s Support for Republican Candidate Sparks Democratic Backlash

Hailey Stevens, a member of the US House of Representatives, announced her support for Mike Rogers, the Republican candidate, to strengthen Donald Trump’s position. This decision caused discontent within the Democratic Party. Following this move, Justin German, Stevens’ chief of staff, along with several colleagues, resigned and declared their support for Abdulrahman Al-Sayed, Rogers’ Democratic opponent. German described Stevens’ decision as unpleasant and shocking, emphasizing that the election is more important than party differences. Chuck Schumer, the Senate Democratic minority leader, called the support a betrayal and expressed his solidarity with Abdulrahman Al-Sayed. Stevens had previously criticized Al-Sayed’s stance against the Zionist regime. Donald Trump, during his campaign rally in Iowa, invited Stevens to join the Republican Party, calling it a smart decision. Trump had also stated before the event that he would contact Stevens to thank her for her support.
