Tuberculosis Treatment Success Rate in Afghanistan Rises to 95.6%

The United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) announced that in the third quarter of 2026, the treatment success rate for tuberculosis (TB) in Afghanistan reached 95.6%, exceeding the set target. During this period, over 185,000 people across Afghanistan were screened for tuberculosis, and nearly 14,000 patients began their treatment.

This program, supported by the Global Fund to Fight AIDS, Tuberculosis and Malaria and implemented by the UNDP, aims to reduce the incidence and mortality caused by tuberculosis. Despite significant improvements in treatment success, statistics indicate that Afghanistan still faces extensive challenges related to this widespread disease.

The World Health Organization reported approximately 76,000 TB cases and nearly 9,900 deaths from the disease in 2022. In 2025, around 49,500 patients were enrolled in treatment programs, with a treatment success rate of 94% that year.
