Pakistan Halts Planned Military Operation Against Taliban at Qatar’s Request

Pakistan’s Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister, Mohammad Ishaq Dar, has revealed that the country had planned a military operation against Afghanistan last month but postponed the move at the request of Qatar.
According to Dar, the Qatari government contacted Islamabad after receiving intelligence reports that the Pakistani army was preparing to take military action. Qatar then called for mediation and urged a halt to the planned operation, which was scheduled to take place the same night. As a result, Pakistan called off the mission.
Dar stressed that Islamabad is fully capable of confronting threats originating from Afghan territory and warned that continued terrorist attacks should not lead to the perception that Pakistan is unable to defend itself. He also explicitly called on the Taliban administration to reconsider its stance and policies.
Dar added that improving relations between the two countries depends on the Taliban administration severing ties with terrorist groups. He emphasized that without peace in Afghanistan, regional stability would remain out of reach. His statement reflects growing concern over the Taliban’s role in destabilizing the border region and the increasing insurgent activity within Pakistan’s territory.
