Taliban claims 96% completion of Kajaki power dam’s second phase in Helmand

The Taliban administration has claimed that the second phase of the Kajaki power dam in Kajaki district of Helmand province is 96% complete and, according to it, will soon enter the operational stage. The project, built on the Helmand River, is considered one of Afghanistan’s key projects in hydropower generation and water resource management.
The Kajaki dam plays an important role in supplying electricity to Helmand province and neighbouring provinces, and also helps regulate water flow and expand irrigation for agricultural land. However, given the country’s extensive infrastructure problems and lack of facilities, claims that the project has been completed continue to be met with doubt.
According to Taliban officials, completion of the project could help increase agricultural output, create job opportunities and boost industrial activity in the province. However, the lack of transparency and independent reports on the project’s actual status has raised concerns about its effectiveness and durability.
The Kajaki power dam is among the major facilities built in previous periods to provide electricity and water in Helmand region and carries particular strategic importance. While Afghanistan’s resources require serious attention and investment to improve infrastructure, claims related to the project’s progress should be examined carefully and independently.
