Russia detains Swedish citizen over alleged sabotage plot

Russia’s Federal Security Service said it has detained a Swedish citizen in the Pskov region on suspicion of planning a sabotage attack against military facilities in the country.

The agency said the detainee had previously fought in the ranks of the Ukrainian armed forces and had intended to carry out sabotage at Russian military facilities under the cover of joining the Russian armed forces.

The Federal Security Service added that its investigative department has opened a criminal case against the Swedish citizen under Article 276 of Russia’s Criminal Code, which relates to the crime of espionage.

The security agency said investigations and operational activities in the case are ongoing. It did not release further details about the time of arrest or the facilities targeted.
