Iran says industrial drug seizures at Khorasan Razavi border with Afghanistan quadruple

Iranian officials say seizures of industrial drugs, especially methamphetamine, at the borders of Khorasan Razavi with Afghanistan rose fourfold in the first six months of the current year compared with last year.

Majid Shoja, commander of the Khorasan Razavi border guards, told the IRNA news agency that about 1.5 tonnes of various narcotics, including opium, heroin and industrial drugs, were seized at these borders during this period.

According to Shoja, nearly 30% of the drugs seized were industrial drugs, but the bulk of the confiscations consisted of opium and its derivatives, including heroin and morphine.

The Khorasan Razavi border commander said the increase in the price of industrial drugs and the expansion of their production in Afghanistan were among the factors behind the rise in methamphetamine seizures at the province’s borders. The remarks were published by IRNA on Monday, 20 Mehr.
