Taliban Official Calls for Investment in Afghan Livestock Sector at Moscow Animal Health Summit

Attaullah Omari, acting Minister of Agriculture, Irrigation, and Livestock in the Taliban administration, led a delegation to the Animal Health Summit in Moscow. At the summit, he described the state of Afghanistan’s livestock sector as alarming and urged regional countries to take action, stressing that animal diseases in recent years have severely impacted domestic production, livelihoods, and the national economy.
Omari called on regional governments to invest in improving animal health and developing the livestock industry in Afghanistan. He pledged that the Taliban administration would provide necessary facilities for investors. However, many investors remain hesitant to enter the Afghan market due to instability and a lack of clear regulations.
He also highlighted the importance of scientific and technical cooperation in identifying, preventing, and managing animal diseases. Independent experts argue that without open access to scientific resources and engagement with international institutions, Afghanistan’s livestock sector will be unable to effectively combat contagious animal diseases.
Omari’s visit to Russia comes at a time when poor governance, limited foreign relations, and international pressures continue to hinder improvements in Afghanistan’s economic and agricultural sectors.
