Mike Johnson warns Democrats could move quickly to impeach Trump if they win House

Mike Johnson, speaker of the US House of Representatives, has warned about the consequences of a Democratic victory in the midterm elections, saying that if Democrats take control of the House, an impeachment process against Donald Trump will be launched quickly.
According to The Hill, Johnson, in an interview with Scott Jennings, a pro-Trump commentator and analyst, claimed that Democrats would likely move for impeachment “on the first day or the second day.” He added that Democrats had already raised the issue of impeachment earlier in this congressional session and, in his view, were eager to push it forward.
Meanwhile, according to the report, some polls show that Trump’s policies are not widely popular even among parts of the Republican Party. The report adds that while some liberals are calling for Trump’s removal, some Democrats fear that putting impeachment back at the centre of the debate could mobilise Republican voters to turn out in the midterm elections.
According to the report, this has created a sensitive and high-risk political environment for House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries and his team.
