Ata Mohammad Noor Warns Armed Groups Opposing the Taliban Administration
Ata Mohammad Noor has criticised part of the armed movements opposing the Taliban administration, saying dependence on outside powers is not only no path to freedom for Afghanistan, but could also drag the country’s youth needlessly into a field of death.
In a message posted on his X account on Saturday, Sept. 25, Noor wrote that Afghanistan’s freedom is possible “only through the firm, independent will and courageous action of the people,” and that turning into “foreign foot soldiers” does not help the country’s future.
Noor said this position is based on his 45 years of direct experience in war, politics and resistance. According to him, the experience of recent years has shown that dependent movements ultimately become tools of foreign powers and once again pull Afghanistan into a battleground for rival countries.
The remarks come as several political and military groups opposing the Taliban administration, including the National Resistance Front, the Afghanistan Freedom Front and the United Afghanistan Front, have been active in recent years. These groups occasionally report guerrilla operations against the Taliban administration and describe themselves as a “national and independent” force.
However, disputes over the method of struggle and the extent of reliance on external support have remained a point of contention among these movements. Armed opponents of the Taliban administration say their goal is “freedom, citizens’ rights and the end of Taliban rule.”
The Taliban administration has also repeatedly accused its armed opponents of being dependent on foreign countries. It claims these groups are operating to serve external interests, but the opponents have rejected the allegation.
Amid the tensions, media close to the Taliban administration reported yesterday a fierce clash between its forces and the Afghanistan Freedom Front in Nuristan province. According to the Taliban administration, the clash inflicted “heavy casualties” on members of the Freedom Front, and several members of the group were also arrested.
Nuristan is one of Afghanistan’s eastern provinces, a mountainous area that has repeatedly witnessed armed clashes and the activity of armed opposition groups in recent years.
