Republican candidates in the US are removing Trump images
The Atlantic has reported that a number of Republican candidates in the United States have sought to distance themselves from Donald Trump’s policies and public image as the election campaign intensifies. According to the report, opposition to continuing the war against Iran has become one of the main pillars of this shift in stance.
The Atlantic wrote that several Republican candidates who had previously supported the war are now calling for it to end in the primaries. This change has been reflected in their new positions, particularly amid concerns over the war’s economic consequences.
The report names Mike Rogers, Ashley Hinson and John Husted as among those who have called for a swift end to the war against Iran, citing its negative effect on fuel prices in the United States. The Atlantic described this position as part of a broader new shift among some Republican figures.
The magazine also pointed to changes in these candidates’ campaign advertising. According to the report, Andy Barr, the Senate candidate from Kentucky, has removed the image of himself with Trump from the main page of his campaign and replaced the slogan “America First” with “Kentucky First.”
The publication added that Ralph Alfredo has also removed images of Trump from his website, and Byron Donalds, another representative, has taken Trump’s photo off his site. The Atlantic said the trend is not limited to a few candidates, and similar examples have been seen in other states as well.
In a comparison with the 2018 midterm elections, The Atlantic wrote that at the time, Republican candidates competed with one another to show how close they were to Trump. But now, signs of a change in the campaign approach of part of the party can be seen.
