German police arrest Afghan man over wife’s killing in Hamburg

Police in Hamburg, Germany, have said a 40-year-old Afghan man has been arrested on suspicion of killing his 34-year-old wife. The case came to light after the man went to a police station on Thursday morning and, according to police, reported that he had killed his wife in their apartment.
After responding to the scene, police found the woman at the home and took her to hospital, but she later died. Police officials have not released further details about the incident.
The suspect has been arrested and is due to be brought before a court. Hamburg police’s homicide unit and the public prosecutor’s office have launched an investigation into the case.
Hamburg is one of Germany’s major cities, and murder cases there are usually investigated jointly by the specialist homicide unit and the public prosecutor’s office.
