UN welcomes appointment of Rabab Fatima to lead UNAMA

Sima Bahous, Executive Director of UN Women, has welcomed the appointment of Rabab Fatima as the UN Secretary-General’s Special Representative for Afghanistan and head of the UN Assistance Mission in Afghanistan (UNAMA).

In congratulating Fatima on Saturday, 28 September, Bahous said UN Women would work with her at this sensitive time to support the rights, voice and leadership of Afghan women and girls.

Rabab Fatima has recently been appointed as the UN Secretary-General’s Special Representative for Afghanistan and head of UNAMA. She has previously worked in various parts of the United Nations.

UNAMA is the United Nations Assistance Mission in Afghanistan, which is responsible for advancing the political mission and coordinating part of the organisation’s activities in Afghanistan.
