Taliban Says TAPI Pipeline Work in Herat Is 80% Complete

The Taliban administration has announced that work on the TAPI project in the Herat province section has reached about 80% completion, and that most of the designated route for the pipeline has been prepared.

The Taliban’s Ministry of Mines and Petroleum said on Tuesday in a post on X that, out of a total 153 kilometres of route in Herat, 150.3 kilometres have so far been prepared. The ministry added that 134.2 kilometres of monitoring and connecting roads have also been built for the pipeline.

According to the published information, 122.3 kilometres of pipeline have so far been welded and laid, and 71.5 kilometres have also been buried underground. The Taliban administration said these figures indicate that work on this section of the project is nearly 80% complete.

The TAPI project is a gas transmission pipeline from Turkmenistan to Afghanistan, Pakistan and India, and the Herat section is considered one of the key routes for the pipeline inside Afghanistan.
