Afghan Chamber, Turkmen Ambassador Stress Need to Expand Economic Cooperation

The Afghanistan Chamber of Commerce and Investment said that its chairman, Syed Karim Hashemi, met with Khwaja Ovezov, the ambassador of Turkmenistan in Kabul, to discuss expanding trade and economic relations between the two countries. According to a statement from the chamber, the two sides also discussed facilitating cooperation between the private sectors of Afghanistan and Turkmenistan and making use of their shared economic potential.

The Afghanistan Chamber of Commerce and Investment said the Turkmen ambassador stressed the importance of developing economic ties between the two countries during the meeting. He also invited the head of the Afghan chamber to attend two economic events, including the Turkmen Investment Forum.

Syed Karim Hashemi also called on Turkmen officials, traders and investors to participate in the Imam Abu Hanifa Expo, which is scheduled to be held on Oct. 7 in Kabul. He said the event could help introduce Turkmenistan’s products and production capacity, familiarize participants with Afghan goods, and hold bilateral business meetings on the sidelines of the exhibition.

The Afghanistan Chamber of Commerce and Investment is one of the active bodies linking the private sector with regional markets. Turkmenistan is also one of Afghanistan’s northern neighbors, and in recent years part of the relations between the two countries has focused on trade, transit and energy cooperation.
