Afghanistan’s Freedom Front says it repelled Taliban attack in Badakhshan’s Zibak district
The Afghanistan Freedom Front said on Monday that its forces had repelled an attack by the Taliban administration in Zibak district of Badakhshan province. The front claims that Taliban forces suffered casualties in the clash, but it did not give a specific number.
According to the Freedom Front, the fighting lasted about an hour and both sides used light and heavy weapons. The front also claimed its forces put up “firm resistance” against the attack.
In its statement, the Freedom Front said its fighters used “advanced light and heavy weapons” in the incident and that none of its members were injured. These claims have not yet been confirmed by independent sources.
The Taliban administration has not yet said anything officially about the clash or the Freedom Front’s claim regarding casualties among its forces.
Residents of Zibak district had previously reported fighting in the area. A resident of Sang-Leech, a village near the site of the clash, told Afghanistan International that the fighting in the area was “intense” and that Taliban forces were seen moving around the area.
Zibak district is in the eastern part of Badakhshan province, where armed incidents between the Taliban administration and groups opposed to it have been reported in some areas in recent years.
