Takhar police arrest 18 over drug trafficking allegations

Takhar police command said its anti-narcotics forces have arrested 18 people over the past five days on suspicion of drug trafficking in Taloqan, the provincial capital of Takhar, and in a number of districts in the province.
According to the command, 1,160 kilograms of opium and 35 kilograms of hashish were recovered and seized from the detainees.
The Takhar police command said the individuals had intended to move the narcotics secretly in cars and motorcycles.
The agency added that the cases of those arrested have been handed over to judicial and legal authorities for further investigation.
Takhar is one of Afghanistan’s northeastern provinces, and the city of Taloqan serves as its administrative centre.
