Taliban detain 16 over theft and murder cases in three provinces

The Taliban administration said 16 people have been detained in three provinces of the country in connection with thefts and a murder case. According to Taliban officials, the arrests were carried out in Nangarhar, Faryab and Farah.

Nangarhar police command said its security forces detained nine people in Jalalabad city during an intelligence operation on suspicion of involvement in theft. The agency said two Prius cars, a rickshaw and one kilogram of gold were also recovered from the detainees.

At the same time, the Taliban Interior Ministry said its criminal police forces, in separate operations, arrested a four-member group in Maymana, the capital of Faryab province, on theft charges. The ministry also reported the arrest of three people in Bala Buluk district of Farah province in connection with a murder case.

The Taliban said the detainees would be handed over to judicial and legal authorities after initial investigations. Jalalabad is the capital of eastern Nangarhar province, Maymana is located in the north as the capital of Faryab, and Bala Buluk is one of the districts of Farah province in western Afghanistan.
