Taliban police headquarters in Ghor targeted in attack

The Taliban-run police headquarters in Firozkoh, the capital of Ghor province, came under attack on Monday, and sources said the incident caused damage to the building.

Sources had previously told Afghanistan International that the attack was carried out with a hand grenade. According to those sources, there were no casualties, but the police headquarters building was damaged.

Later, the Afghanistan Republic Front, one of the groups opposing the Taliban administration, claimed responsibility for the attack. The front said Taliban forces suffered “serious damage and losses” in the attack, but did not provide details on how that happened.

The Afghanistan Republic Front is a newly formed armed group opposed to the Taliban, led by Tahir Zuhair, the former governor of Bamyan. The front is mainly active in central Afghanistan and in recent weeks has also claimed responsibility for several attacks on Taliban forces and positions.
