Taliban Rejects Border Security Concerns, Says Afghanistan Is Secure
As concerns persist among some regional countries about security along Afghanistan’s borders, the Taliban-run Defence Ministry has claimed that no threat to other countries comes from Afghan territory.
Siddiqullah Nusrat, spokesman for the Taliban-run Defence Ministry, said the administration would not allow any group or individual to use Afghan territory to threaten other countries. He also claimed that there is no group or individual inside Afghanistan that poses a threat to other countries.
According to him, Taliban forces have been deployed regularly along the borders and are responsible for guarding them. Nusrat added that these forces will prevent insecurity and destructive activities in border areas.
The remarks come as some regional countries and the Collective Security Treaty Organization have at various times expressed concern about the security situation along Afghanistan’s borders. The Taliban leadership had previously dismissed such concerns as unfounded.
The Collective Security Treaty Organization is a security alliance made up of several post-Soviet states that monitors security developments in Central Asia and areas near Afghanistan’s borders.
