Taliban Says 10,000 Jeribs of Land in Balkh Declared State Property

The Taliban administration says a special court handling land-grab cases has ruled that nearly 10,000 jeribs of land in Nahr-e Shahi district of Balkh province belongs to the state. Under the decision, people living on or occupying the land have been ordered to hand it over to the Commission for Preventing Land Grabbing and Recovering Seized Land.

In a statement, the Taliban’s Ministry of Justice said the land is located in the Momenabad area of Nahr-e Shahi district and that the ruling was issued after documents and evidence were reviewed. The ministry did not give further details about the identity of the occupants or the document-review process.

According to the ministry, the final decision was issued by the special court dealing with land-grab cases, and the transfer of the land to the relevant commission will also be carried out on the basis of that ruling.

Nahr-e Shahi district is one of the districts of Balkh province in northern Afghanistan. The Commission for Preventing Land Grabbing and Recovering Seized Land is among the structures the Taliban administration has created to handle land ownership cases.
