Taliban Says It Has Seized 670 Jeribs of Land in Mazar-i-Sharif

The Taliban administration says it has seized 670 jeribs of land in the city of Mazar-i-Sharif, the capital of Balkh province, in what is being described as part of its ongoing campaign to take control of land in different parts of the country.

Barakatullah Rasooli, spokesman for the Taliban-run Ministry of Justice, said in a statement posted on X on Tuesday, 3 Sonbula, that the land is located in the “Khwadi project” in the ninth district of Mazar-i-Sharif.

According to him, the area was seized by the Taliban’s “Special Court for the Settlement of Stolen Land Cases.” The Taliban administration has not released further details about ownership of the land or how the move was carried out.

A few days earlier, the Taliban administration also said it had seized nearly 300 jeribs of land in the “Mayar Mina” township of Mazar-i-Sharif. These announcements come as the Taliban, since returning to power, has repeatedly said it has taken thousands of jeribs of land in various Afghan provinces.

Mazar-i-Sharif is the capital of Balkh province in northern Afghanistan, and in recent years a number of land dispute cases in the city have made headlines.
