Taliban Authorities Announce Start of Cement Factory in Herat
The Taliban administration has announced the establishment of a new cement factory, Golbahar Cement Factory, in Herat province, aiming to meet part of the country’s cement demand through domestic production. According to the administration, this move could reduce dependency on imports.
Mullah Abdul Ghani Baradar, the Deputy Economic Minister of the Taliban’s Cabinet, said at the cornerstone laying ceremony on Sunday that Afghanistan holds a significant position in regional economic and trade relations. He added that the administration is striving to expand regional and international ties through “economic diplomacy.”
Referring to Afghanistan’s natural resources, he described the country as “rich” and stated that the process of rebuilding economic infrastructure is underway. According to him, to encourage investors, measures such as tax reduction, exemptions, and certain facilities have been considered.
The Deputy Economic Minister also claimed that the factory’s activities will create employment opportunities and contribute to the development of the construction sector.
Herat is one of the important provinces in western Afghanistan, playing a prominent role in trade and the import of construction materials due to its geographical location. In recent years, Afghanistan has imported a significant portion of its required cement from neighboring countries—a factor that has consistently affected the costs of construction projects.
