Taliban Administration Declares Ownership of 363 Jeribs of Land in Nangarhar

The Taliban’s Ministry of Justice has announced that a special court handling cases of ‘usurped’ lands in the central zone has recognized 363 jeribs of land in the Sarkhrod district of Nangarhar province as property of the Taliban administration. According to the ministry, these lands are located in the Kashkak area of Sarkhrod district. After reviewing documents and evidence submitted by the occupants, the Commission to Prevent Land Usurpation and related bodies issued a ruling to confirm the land as property of the Taliban administration. The Taliban administration has not provided details regarding the fate of residents or individuals who previously occupied these lands. It also remains unclear how any potential objections or appeals will be processed. Following the Taliban’s return to power, a process to identify and confirm so-called ‘Emirate’ lands has begun in several provinces; a process that has raised concerns in some cases about the transparency of document verification and the rights of occupants.
