Taliban Administration Says Pakistan’s Transit Route Closures Harm Afghan Traders
Following ongoing tensions between Kabul and Islamabad, the Taliban administration has announced that Pakistan’s closure of transit routes has negatively impacted Afghan traders and trade relations between the two countries.
Zabihullah Mujahid, spokesman for the Taliban administration, said on Saturday during the program “Government in the Mirror of the Press” that continuing political and economic tensions benefit neither country. He emphasized that the Taliban administration does not seek to expand disputes with any country and is striving to resolve existing issues with Pakistan through dialogue.
According to Mujahid, Pakistan’s blocking of transit routes has created challenges for bilateral trade. He added that “final efforts are underway to take effective steps for a fundamental resolution to these problems.”
In recent months, relations between Afghanistan and Pakistan have repeatedly experienced tensions over security and trade issues. The closure of border crossings in the past has caused significant financial losses to traders on both sides and disrupted the flow of goods.
In another part of his remarks, the Taliban spokesman addressed a group called the “United Front,” claiming it does not have a significant presence inside Afghanistan and that its activities are limited to social media. He also asserted that security forces will not allow any individual or group to threaten the country’s security.
