Taliban Authorities Seize Nearly $250,000 Smuggled from Herat to Iran

The Taliban administration has announced that border forces at Islam Qala port in Herat province prevented the illegal transfer of nearly $250,000 in US dollars to Iran. This amount was being smuggled out of the country unlawfully.

According to a statement from the acting Ministry of Interior of the Taliban administration, the money was discovered and confiscated from an individual attempting to smuggle it across the border.

The ministry stated that the detained individual, along with the seized cash, has been handed over to the relevant authorities to proceed with legal measures.

The Taliban administration emphasized that efforts to prevent smuggling and financial violations at the country’s border ports continue. This issue has become increasingly sensitive among many citizens amid Afghanistan’s fragile economic conditions and banking restrictions.

Islam Qala port in western Afghanistan is one of the most important trade gateways between Afghanistan and Iran and has always been a busy transit route for goods and currency transfers.
