Nafisa Hijran: Afghanistan’s Tricolor Flag Is Inseparable from National Identity

Nafisa Hijran, former member of Logar Provincial Council, emphasized on the occasion of Afghanistan’s National Flag Day that the country’s tricolor flag, with a history spanning over a century, holds a deeply rooted place in the national identity of Afghans and will never be erased from the minds and hearts of the people.

She stated that this flag was introduced during the era of Ghazi Amanullah Khan and was designated as the official national emblem during the republican period. According to Hijran, under President Mohammad Ashraf Ghani’s administration, the 7th of Asad (July 29) was officially named “National Flag Day.”

Hijran added that although different flags have been used in Afghanistan at various historical times, none have achieved the widespread national significance and international recognition that the tricolor flag has.

She also noted that affection for this flag among Afghan children and citizens is deeply rooted and unchanging, forming part of the people’s collective memory and identity.
