Taliban Appoints New Governor and Police Chief for Jowzjan Province
The Taliban administration has appointed Qari Mohammad Ismail Rasikh as the new governor of Jowzjan province and Mullah Abdul Karim Nafez as the police chief of the province; these officials have reportedly officially started their duties.
The two officials were introduced in a ceremony attended by a number of religious scholars, tribal elders, Taliban administrative officials, and other provincial staff. A delegation from the Taliban Ministry of Interior was dispatched to Jowzjan to present the appointees.
Hafiz Noorullah Ansar, head of Incident Affairs and Fire Department at the Taliban Ministry of Interior, said at the ceremony that personnel changes within the administration are considered a fundamental principle and are made based on what he called the “necessity seen by the Commander of the Faithful.”
He also emphasized unity between the administration’s forces and the people, stating that, according to the Taliban administration’s claims, linguistic, positional, and ethnic prejudices have no place within the administration and are regarded as contrary to Sharia law.
Jowzjan, a northern province of Afghanistan, has witnessed frequent changes in local leadership in recent years; these decisions are made by the central leadership of the Taliban administration.
