Afghanistan Liberation Front Responds to Taliban’s Threat of Renewed Suicide Attacks
New remarks by the Taliban spokesman about the readiness of the group’s “Fedayeen” to defend their rule, coinciding with increased clashes in Badakhshan, have raised concerns over escalating violence and repeated suicide attacks.
Davood Naji, head of the political committee of the Afghanistan Liberation Front, responded on Monday, July 26, to Zabihullah Mujahid’s comments by stating that the record of Taliban suicide attackers is “clear,” noting that in the past they have targeted civilians, students, doctors, nurses, and women in labor—not military forces on the battlefield. He added that the situation has not changed today.
Mr. Naji wrote in a post on the X network: “The fighters of the Liberation Front fight with faith and awareness and are fully aware of your ignorance and cowardice. That will be the end of you on the battlefield.” These remarks come as opposition attacks against Taliban positions in Badakhshan province have increased in recent weeks.
The Liberation Front has claimed responsibility for attacks on Taliban positions in the Artillery area of Badakhshan, asserting that they have captured several outposts, killed 21 Taliban fighters including several commanders, and wounded 37 others. The front also reported shooting down two Taliban drones.
Previously, on July 16, the Homeland Army Front attacked Yaftal district in Badakhshan, temporarily removing it from Taliban control—a development that the Taliban administration subsequently confirmed. Recently, Zibak district has also witnessed heavy fighting.
On Monday, Zabihullah Mujahid, Taliban spokesperson, speaking in Kandahar, described reports of Yaftal’s fall and ongoing clashes as “media propaganda,” and claimed the country was liberated through the “sacrifice of the Fedayeen,” pledging that even more sacrifices would be made to preserve it. The Taliban administration refers to its suicide attackers as “Fedayeen.”
