Taliban Administration Dismisses Badakhshan Clashes as Exaggeration
Following recent clashes between security forces and armed opponents in Badakhshan province, Zabihullah Mujahid, spokesperson for the Taliban administration, described the incidents as the result of “exaggeration by certain intelligence circles” and claimed that such events also occur in other countries.
Speaking at the inauguration of the “Government in the Mirror of the Press” program at the Government Media Center, he emphasized that these clashes are not alarming and stated that security forces are fully prepared to control any military movements.
At the same time, Sheikh Sher Ahmad Haqqani, acting Minister of Information and Culture for the Taliban administration, called much of the reporting on Badakhshan events “rumor-mongering” and said that the media and the Taliban administration must work together to ensure that, according to him, the facts are accurately presented to the public.
The Government Media Center announced that the “Government in the Mirror of the Press” program was launched to enhance coordination and reflect the activities of government departments. Some officials stressed the role of the media in highlighting the Taliban administration’s achievements and said they support the media.
These remarks come amid repeated calls by media and journalists for timely and complete access to information, highlighting the existing restrictions on information dissemination as a significant challenge for media work in the country. Badakhshan province in northeastern Afghanistan has witnessed intermittent security tensions in recent months.
