Taliban Administration Imposes Movement Restrictions on Residents of Panjshir Valley

Local sources in Panjshir province report that following an attack on a Taliban administration checkpoint in the Darah district, the Taliban have imposed extensive restrictions on the daily lives of local residents.

According to sources, a checkpoint in the Sarsafidar area was targeted in an attack on Friday night (July 22). After this incident, Taliban forces summoned local elders and accused village residents of involvement in the attack.

Sources added that the elders were informed that from now on, no individual is allowed to go to the mountains or move livestock to grazing areas in the mountainous regions. Additionally, restrictions have been placed on people’s movements within the village, and gatherings as well as movement near checkpoints have been prohibited.

It remains unclear who carried out the attack on Friday night, as no group or individual has claimed responsibility.

Since the Taliban’s reestablishment of control over Afghanistan, Panjshir has experienced repeated security restrictions. During this period, reports have also emerged of the detention and imprisonment of several young people from this province on charges of collaborating with opponents of the Taliban administration.
