Taliban’s Mullah Hassan Akhund Meets Uzbekistan’s Deputy Prime Minister in Kabul to Strengthen Ties
The Office of the Prime Minister of the Taliban administration announced that Mullah Mohammad Hassan Akhund met with Jamshid Khodzhaev, Deputy Prime Minister of Uzbekistan, in Kabul to discuss strengthening political and economic relations.
According to the statement, the meeting took place this morning (Sunday, July 26) at the Arg Palace. Taliban officials said the main focus of the talks was the implementation of previous commitments in investment and trade sectors.
The Prime Minister’s Office, quoting Uzbekistan’s Deputy Prime Minister, wrote that the purpose of his visit with his accompanying delegation was to ‘expand and consolidate economic and political ties’ between the two countries. He also described Afghanistan as having an important position in Uzbekistan’s foreign policy.
Jamshid Khodzhaev stated that the value of Afghanistan’s exports to Uzbekistan had reached $150 million in 2025, but this figure has recorded $111 million so far this year, with expectations to increase by the end of the year. He also said the issuance of 5,000 visas for Afghan citizens is a sign of developing economic relations between the two countries.
Mullah Mohammad Hassan Akhund, acting Prime Minister of the Taliban administration, described the Uzbek delegation’s visit as significant and a sign of ‘that country’s strong trust in Afghanistan’s future.’ He added that the Taliban administration considers itself committed to implementing the agreements made.
The Deputy Prime Minister of Uzbekistan, leading a government delegation and representatives from the private sector, arrived in Kabul yesterday. In addition to meeting Taliban officials, he is scheduled to participate in a business event.
