Taliban Supreme Court Chief Emphasizes Fair Judgments and Integrity of Kabul Judges
The head of the Taliban Supreme Court has underscored the importance of fair rulings, integrity, and proper conduct towards citizens in a meeting with officials of Kabul’s newly established primary urban courts.
According to a statement from the Supreme Court’s press office, Sheikh Abdul Hakim Haqqani, the Chief Justice of the Taliban Supreme Court, addressed several officials including the administrative deputy, chief of staff, head of the General Directorate of Documentation, head of Kabul’s Litigation Court, and heads of the newly formed zones.
He stated that courts hold a central place in the Taliban administration’s envisioned system and that their performance influences the public’s perception of justice. Haqqani emphasized that preventing injustice and fostering hope among the oppressed depend on how judges handle cases.
He also identified “reforming one’s intentions” and “sincerity” as fundamental principles of judicial work. He stressed that responsibility in courts should not be pursued for worldly gains but should focus on implementing divine rulings and defending the rights of the oppressed.
Haqqani urged officials to engage with citizens with a spirit of responsibility rather than an authoritarian approach, to review cases promptly, and to strive for reconciliation between disputing parties during proceedings.
At the conclusion of the meeting, officials from the ten zones of Kabul’s primary urban courts pledged to carry out their duties with honesty and accountability. The Taliban administration has previously emphasized establishing and restructuring judicial institutions in Kabul.
