Gold Mine Tunnel Collapse in Takhar Kills Three Young Men

Local sources in Takhar province report that the collapse of a gold mine tunnel in the Samti area of Chah Ab district has claimed the lives of three young men. According to these sources, two of the victims were named Mohammadyasin and Hossein, residents of Vernaokh village. The third victim, Najibullah, was from Khwaja Bahauddin district in Takhar province. The sources added that after the incident, the bodies of the three young men remained trapped under the rubble, and due to the risk of another tunnel collapse, retrieving the bodies was difficult. Families and relatives of the victims were compelled to hold the funeral prayer at the entrance of the same tunnel and bury their loved ones on site. Takhar province in northeastern Afghanistan has gold mines, and in recent years, similar incidents have been reported due to the lack of safety facilities in traditional mines.
