Taliban Destroys Over 800 Kilograms of Narcotics in Ghor Province
The Taliban administration has announced the destruction of more than 800 kilograms of narcotics along with thousands of kilograms of precursor and chemical substances used in drug production in Ghor province. This action comes amid ongoing concerns about the continued circulation of drugs in the country.
The Ghor Police Command’s press office issued a statement saying these substances were burned on Monday in the presence of an assigned delegation at a site away from residential areas. According to the statement, the narcotics were seized during detection operations by the anti-narcotics forces.
The seized shipment included 33 kilograms of opium, 4 kilograms of hashish, 1.7 kilograms of methamphetamine, 799.2 kilograms of substance classified as “F”, 2 liters of alcohol, 150 kilograms of impure opium, 10,000 kilograms of processed opium, 600 liters of acetone, 496 liters of acid, 4,405 kilograms of lime, and 12,900 kilograms of caustic soda.
In a separate incident in Jowzjan province, Qari Abdul Sattar Halimi, spokesperson for the provincial police command, said that eight people were arrested in Aqcha district while gambling. He added that two others were detained by the anti-narcotics department on charges of selling narcotics and intoxicant pills.
The Jowzjan police spokesperson further stated that 155 grams of hashish and 320 narcotic pills were confiscated from these two individuals. The Taliban administration had previously reported the discovery and destruction of similar consignments, reports that also highlight the persistent presence and trade of narcotics in parts of the country.
