Iran’s Revolutionary Guard Reports Stoppage of Two Ships in the Strait of Hormuz
The Navy of Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) announced that four ‘unauthorized’ ships, after turning off their navigation systems and ignoring warnings, attempted to pass through an unsafe route in the Strait of Hormuz. As a result, two ships were involved in incidents and were stopped in place, while the other two ships abandoned their attempts to continue.
According to the IRGC, this event occurred after the ships changed their course without coordinating with the Strait of Hormuz control base. No further details have been provided regarding the nature of the incidents or possible damages.
The IRGC Navy also stated that it maintains full control over the Strait of Hormuz and that only the designated route approved by this force is safe for vessels to pass through. According to the military authority, the passage of any oil, gas, or chemical fertilizer cargo through this strategic corridor will not be permitted without prior coordination and authorization.
The force warned that vessels entering unapproved routes face the risk of accidents.
The Strait of Hormuz is considered one of the world’s most critical energy transit chokepoints, through which a significant portion of Persian Gulf oil and gas exports pass. Any tension in the region could impact global energy markets.
