Fifty-Six Food Aid Trucks Allowed Entry into Afghanistan via Torkham After Year-Long Halt

Local Taliban officials in Nangarhar have announced that 56 trucks carrying food aid from the World Food Programme (WFP) have been granted permission to enter Afghanistan through the Torkham border crossing after nearly a year of suspension.
Maulvi Sadiqullah Qureshi, Chief of the Information Division at the Nangarhar Department of Information and Culture, stated that so far 19 trucks from this convoy have entered the country, with the remaining vehicles expected to pass through the same route shortly. According to him, all these trucks are carrying humanitarian aid from the World Food Programme.
Based on statements from this Taliban official, the Torkham crossing is currently open only for the return of Afghan migrants coming back from Pakistan and for the transit of humanitarian aid. The crossing remains closed to commercial and transit traffic as it has been previously.
Torkham is one of the most important border crossings between Afghanistan and Pakistan. Its continued closure for trade and transit in recent months has raised concerns among traders and residents on both sides of the border. These ongoing restrictions on commercial activities come at a time when Afghanistan is facing economic challenges and shortages of raw materials in certain regions.
