Afghan Carpets Exported to 37 Countries, Supporting Over 15,000 Workers

The Union of Afghan Carpet Producers and Exporters has announced that carpets produced in Afghanistan are now exported to 37 countries worldwide. According to officials from the union, the monthly production capacity reaches 10,000 meters, providing employment for more than 15,000 people, the majority of whom are women.
Abdullah Rahmanqal, the head of the union, states that the main export markets for Afghan carpets include Turkey, European and Arab countries, the United States, and Canada. He emphasizes that due to their high quality, authentic designs, and use of natural wool, Afghan carpets have gained a distinguished position in global markets.
Union officials note that in the past, a significant portion of Afghan carpets was first transferred to neighboring countries or produced by Afghan refugees there and then entered global markets under those countries’ names. However, now carpets are exported under the name of Afghanistan.
At the same time, industry activists consistently highlight the urgent need for practical support of the carpet industry, removal of export barriers, and facilitation of banking and transit services. They state that amid economic and banking restrictions shadowing trade activities, the continued growth of this industry requires transparent planning and effective support from the Taliban administration for producers and exporters.
Afghan carpets, known for their traditional motifs, weaving skills, and use of natural materials, have long been recognized as one of the country’s most important export products and enjoy a dedicated customer base in many global markets.
