Russia Condemns NATO’s New Decisions as ‘Disastrous’ for Global Security

Russia has strongly condemned NATO’s recent decisions made at the alliance’s summit in Turkey, particularly the increase in military aid to Ukraine and the strengthening of member states’ defense capabilities. Moscow warned that these actions could have “disastrous” consequences for global security.
Maria Zakharova, spokesperson for the Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, stated that NATO’s current priorities remain focused on the militarization of Europe, enhancing defense capacities, and preparing for a potential confrontation with Russia. She also described the continued military support for Ukraine as part of this approach.
Zakharova added that if NATO leaders had acted with greater caution and responsibility, they would have refrained from measures that, according to her, are dangerous not only for the alliance but also for the world.
At the conclusion of their summit, NATO leaders pledged to provide €70 billion in military aid to Ukraine by 2026. They also reaffirmed their resolute commitment to the principle of collective defense based on Article 5 of the NATO treaty and announced arms agreements worth at least $50 billion.
Alongside these statements, Zakharova mentioned ongoing disagreements between the United States and some NATO members, claiming that Washington is dissatisfied with the level of support from its allies.
In response, NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg told Reuters that differences among member countries reflect the dynamic and democratic nature of the alliance and should not be interpreted by Russia as a sign of weakness.
