Trump Praises Syrian Interim Government Leader During U.S. Visit

U.S. President Donald Trump praised Abu Mohammad al-Joulani, head of the Syrian Interim Government, during an official meeting in Washington, describing him as a “capable” leader and saying he would “get along” with him. The meeting took place during al-Joulani’s visit to the United States.
Speaking to reporters, Trump acknowledged al-Joulani’s difficult past, stating, “We’ve all had tough pasts.” He emphasized that the U.S. would work towards success and stability in Syria, adding, “We will do everything within our power for Syria’s future.”
The U.S. President underlined Syria’s significant geopolitical position in the Middle East, saying, “This region is moving toward peace, and we are striving to improve Syria’s relations with other countries, including Israel.”
Trump also mentioned that the United States is aiming to strengthen its cooperation with Israel and expressed hope for lasting peace among countries in the region.
He further claimed that if he were not president, the world might have edged closer to World War III. Trump noted that he had increased NATO members’ defense spending contributions from two percent to five percent.
Concluding his remarks, the President referred to a ceasefire in Gaza, stating that Hamas had returned the bodies of several Israeli hostages, marking another step forward in the regional peace process.
