Afghan UN Representative Calls for Halt to Pressure and Threats Against Former Military Personnel

Nasir Ahmad Faeeq, Afghanistan’s representative to the United Nations, responding to reports of killings of former military personnel, stated that the country’s military and security forces have fallen victim to the “crimes of the Taliban.” He emphasized that these individuals have faced targeted threats and eliminations following political developments in Afghanistan.
Faeeq wrote on his X page that former military and security forces, in addition to being victims of what he described as “Taliban crimes,” are also betrayed by those who, according to him, weakened the peace process and handed Afghanistan and its people over to the Taliban administration. He did not provide further details on the individuals he referred to.
The Afghan envoy to the UN added that the consequences of those decisions today weigh heavily on millions of citizens, including women, girls, youth, and former military personnel. According to him, these groups face widespread restrictions, threats, and pressures.
Faeeq further pointed to historical experiences, asserting that the current situation is unsustainable and that no authoritarian regime endures in the long term. These remarks come amid numerous reports of ongoing pressures and harsh measures by the Taliban administration against some former military members and employees.
